1. Acceptance of Terms

By installing, accessing, or using the OilPriceAPI for Google Sheets add-on ("Add-on"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not install or use the Add-on.

These Terms are a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and OilPriceAPI ("we," "our," or "us").

2. Description of Service

The Add-on provides the following features:

  • Source-aware formulas: Request the latest available value and its source context using formulas such as =OILPRICE_PRICE("WTI_USD") and =OILPRICE_INFO("WTI_USD")
  • Reviewed table access: Request allowlisted OilPriceAPI tables with OILPRICE_GET and discover codes with OILPRICE_CODES
  • Sidebar and dialogs: Store or delete an API key, test the connection, select market identifiers, and view actionable diagnostics
  • API integration: Connect to OilPriceAPI over HTTPS to fetch the latest available source records
  • Caching: Temporary data storage to improve performance

3. User Accounts and API Keys

3.1 OilPriceAPI Account

To use the Add-on, you must have an active OilPriceAPI account. Your use of the OilPriceAPI service is governed by the main OilPriceAPI Terms of Service.

3.2 API Key Security

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your API key confidential
  • Not sharing your API key with unauthorized users
  • Monitoring usage of your API key
  • Reporting any unauthorized use immediately
  • Revoking compromised API keys promptly

3.3 Account Suspension

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Add-on if:

  • Your OilPriceAPI account is suspended or terminated
  • You violate these Terms
  • You exceed API rate limits without upgrading
  • We detect abusive or fraudulent behavior

4. Acceptable Use Policy

4.1 Permitted Uses

You may use the Add-on to:

  • Fetch commodity prices for legitimate business or personal use
  • Build financial models and analysis spreadsheets
  • Track energy market trends
  • Monitor procurement costs
  • Conduct academic research

4.2 Prohibited Uses

You may NOT use the Add-on to:

  • ❌ Resell or redistribute data retrieved through the Add-on. We hold no redistribution rights in third-party-sourced series and cannot convey any.
  • ❌ Reverse engineer or attempt to extract the Add-on's source code
  • ❌ Bypass rate limits or API restrictions
  • ❌ Use automated scripts to make excessive requests
  • ❌ Share your API key publicly or with unauthorized users
  • ❌ Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • ❌ Interfere with the operation of the Add-on or OilPriceAPI service
  • ❌ Use the service for illegal activities

4.3 Rate Limits

Your usage is subject to the API rate limits of your OilPriceAPI subscription plan. Current request limits and dataset access are published on the OilPriceAPI pricing page. Limits may vary by plan, dataset, source, and account entitlement.

If the configured account reaches a limit, the Add-on returns an actionable error. Review account options at www.oilpriceapi.com/pricing.

5. Pricing and Billing

5.1 Add-on Pricing

The Add-on itself is free to install. However, you must have an OilPriceAPI subscription to use it.

5.2 OilPriceAPI Subscription

Current subscription prices, request limits, and dataset access are maintained on the OilPriceAPI pricing page. The terms displayed during checkout govern the selected subscription.

5.3 Billing

Billing is handled by OilPriceAPI (via Stripe). Refer to the main OilPriceAPI Terms of Service for billing terms, refund policy, and payment processing.

6. Service Availability and Disclaimers

6.1 Uptime Target

We strive for a 99.9% uptime target for the OilPriceAPI backend. However, we do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the Add-on or API.

6.2 Maintenance

We may perform scheduled maintenance with advance notice. Emergency maintenance may occur without notice.

6.3 No Warranty

THE ADD-ON IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that:

  • The Add-on will be error-free or uninterrupted
  • Commodity price data will be 100% accurate (prices are sourced from third-party exchanges)
  • The Add-on will meet your specific requirements
  • The service will always be available

7. Limitation of Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL OILPRICEAPI BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE ADD-ON.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Add-on shall not exceed the amount you paid to OilPriceAPI in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of liability, so the above may not apply to you.

8. Intellectual Property Rights

8.1 Our Ownership

The Add-on, including its source code, design, features, and documentation, is owned by OilPriceAPI and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

8.2 Your License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Add-on for your personal or business purposes, subject to these Terms.

8.3 Your Content

You retain ownership of your spreadsheet content. We do not claim ownership of your data or formulas.

9. Termination

9.1 By You

You may stop using the Add-on at any time by uninstalling it from Google Sheets.

9.2 By Us

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Add-on if:

  • You violate these Terms
  • Your OilPriceAPI account is terminated
  • We discontinue the Add-on (with 30 days notice)
  • We detect abusive behavior

9.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination:

  • Your license to use the Add-on ends immediately
  • Custom functions will stop working in your spreadsheets
  • Before uninstalling, use “Delete API Key” to remove the stored key and request diagnostic. Generated spreadsheet cells remain until you clear or delete them.
  • Your OilPriceAPI account remains active (managed separately)

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date at the top.

Material changes will be notified via:

  • Email (if we have your email from OilPriceAPI account)
  • Notification in the Add-on sidebar
  • Update to this page

Continued use of the Add-on after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Dispute Resolution

11.1 Informal Resolution

Before filing a formal claim, please contact us at [email protected] to resolve the issue informally.

11.2 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions.

11.3 Jurisdiction

Any legal action arising from these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the courts of Delaware, United States.

12. Miscellaneous

12.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the OilPriceAPI Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and OilPriceAPI regarding the Add-on.

12.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

12.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be considered a waiver of those rights.

12.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction.
