About Our Data

OilPriceAPI provides a unified delivery mechanism for publicly available commodity price data. We aggregate, normalize, and deliver price data from multiple public sources — government agencies and published market reporting services — through a single REST API.

What the Service Is For

We grant no rights in the data, in any form. We hold no licence from any upstream source, so we are not in a position to authorize, permit, or forbid what you do with the underlying facts. Nothing on this page is a grant of rights. What follows describes what the API is built and priced for, which is internal business use within your organization — the use that raises no question of rights in the first place. Common cases:

Powering internal dashboards and analytics applications
Automated fuel surcharge calculations and pricing adjustments
Financial modeling, risk assessment, and portfolio analysis
Operational decision-making and supply chain optimization
Research and market intelligence for internal teams

Redistribution

We are not a licensed distributor of any exchange or price-reporting agency. We therefore cannot convey redistribution, republication, or public-display rights over third-party-sourced data — at any plan tier, for any fee. Those rights are not ours to give, so there is no agreement, upgrade, or arrangement through which we can hand them to you. If you need them, they must come from the originating publisher.

Use inside your own organization needs no such rights, and it is what the API is built for: applications, dashboards, pricing models, analysis, and internal reporting.

Government-sourced data is a different situation. Data we source from U.S. government providers — including our EIA retail diesel and gasoline prices — is in the public domain. That status comes from the source. It is not a permission we issue, and it is not ours to issue; no permission from us is involved either way, and none is needed from us. Attribute the originating agency (e.g., "Source: U.S. EIA"). See our Redistribution page for the full list of public-domain series.

Compliance

Users are responsible for ensuring their use of commodity price data complies with all applicable laws and regulations in their jurisdiction. This includes but is not limited to securities regulations, data protection laws, and industry-specific compliance requirements.

Data Accuracy

While we take extensive measures to ensure data accuracy — including cross-validation from multiple sources and automated anomaly detection — commodity price data is provided on an "as-is" basis. We recommend users implement their own validation for mission-critical applications.
