About UK Natural Gas Pricing

The UK natural gas market uses the NBP (National Balancing Point) as its benchmark. Prices are quoted in pence per therm (GBp/thm), unlike the US Henry Hub which trades in USD per MMBtu.

One therm equals approximately 29.3 kWh. UK household gas tariffs, energy supplier contracts, and industrial energy procurement are all tied to NBP movements.

NBP is a virtual trading point on the UK National Transmission System (NTS) operated by National Grid. It is the most liquid natural gas market in Europe.
