EU gas storage API

Pull filling levels, inventory, and daily flows into a report or model through OilPriceAPI. Keep the source gas day beside every value, and treat a fresh API response as different from a newly published storage observation.

Choose a storage series

Use the EU aggregate or a country series at one geographical level. Do not add country figures to the EU aggregate: that would count the same inventory twice. Filling values are percentage points; inventory is energy stored in TWh.

For EU daily movement, request EU_GAS_STORAGE_INJECTION_GWH and EU_GAS_STORAGE_WITHDRAWAL_GWH. These are gross flows in GWh per gas day; their difference is net flow. Related terminal series EU_LNG_INVENTORY_GWH and EU_LNG_SENDOUT_GWH come from GIE ALSI and describe LNG infrastructure, not underground storage.

Make a first request

The standard latest-price endpoint takes a storage code. Keep your key on the server, inspect the response status, and label the returned source timestamp as the observed gas day. A successful request does not mean every country or date has a usable observation.

Source publication is typically delayed by about two gas days at 07:00 UK. Late releases and revisions can extend that gap. Check the timestamp rather than assuming a fixed refresh time.

Validate before a decision

  • Keep gas day, retrieval time, geography and units separate.
  • Check missing dates and source corrections in a requested range.
  • Do not treat an unavailable inventory as zero.
  • Confirm plan access and actual history before scheduling a backtest.

Plan a target, not a forecast

Fictional example: 100 TWh capacity at 60% full needs 30 TWh to reach a chosen 90% target. Over 30 days, that is 1,000 GWh/day of average net additions. It does not establish whether that rate is achievable or legally required.

For a combined filling percentage, divide summed inventory by summed working capacity for a non-overlapping set of facilities on the same gas day. Do not average country percentages.

Storage target calculator

Enter working capacity, stored gas, your chosen fill target, days, and an illustrative net injection rate. Use values from the same geography and gas day. This calculator does not fetch live data.

Enter all five inputs to see a target calculation.

Net injection means additions minus withdrawals. This constant-rate arithmetic ignores facility limits, weather, losses, and changing demand. It is not a forecast or legal storage requirement.

Connect storage to the rest of the workflow

GIE AGSI+ is the storage source; GIE ALSI is the LNG source. OilPriceAPI packages observations for access and grants no rights in the underlying data. Review data-use guidance and the source terms for your intended use. For price context, see the Dutch TTF price API.

Questions

What does the EU gas storage API return?

The EU aggregate and five country pairs report filling percentage and gas in storage in TWh. Separate EU series report injection and withdrawal in GWh per gas day. Each observation must be read with its source gas day.

Is this the same as the Dutch TTF price?

No. GIE AGSI+ reports physical underground gas storage. Dutch TTF is a gas price benchmark. Compare them only after aligning dates and units.

How much history is available?

Check the requested code and date range in your account. As checked November 7, 2026, OilPriceAPI history is short and a complete historical backfill is not established. The direct GIE API is a separate route for longer source history.
