Understanding Haynesville Shale
The Haynesville is a deep, high-pressure Jurassic shale beneath northwest Louisiana and East Texas, with the Bossier interval often discussed as part of the same development system. Wells are predominantly dry-gas producers and typically require substantial drilling and completion intensity because of depth and reservoir pressure. Location within the play affects thickness, temperature and expected well performance.
Its proximity to Gulf Coast LNG terminals and interstate pipelines links Haynesville drilling closely to export demand and natural-gas economics. EIA publishes a basin-specific marketed-gas series, allowing this page to show production without borrowing a state total. DPR well counts, when current, provide a separate view of drilling and completion activity rather than a substitute for production.
