SCOOP & STACK Plays

🛢️ Oil
Oklahoma

SCOOP (South Central Oklahoma Oil Province) and STACK (Sooner Trend, Anadarko, Canadian, Kingfisher) are major oil plays in Oklahoma.

Basin-specific production is not published

EIA does not publish a current SCOOP/STACK production series. Oklahoma totals are intentionally not used as a play-level proxy.

We leave the measurement absent instead of substituting a broader geography or an estimated zero. The basin geography, geology, operators, formations and related-basin references below remain available.

Understanding SCOOP & STACK Plays

SCOOP and STACK are commercial development fairways within Oklahoma’s Anadarko Basin, not separate formal sedimentary basins. SCOOP activity is concentrated farther south, while STACK refers to the Sooner Trend across parts of the Anadarko, Canadian and Kingfisher county area. Operators target stacked intervals that can include the Woodford, Meramec, Osage and Springer.

Fluid mix and economics differ among benches and across the two fairways, so an Oklahoma production total cannot describe either play accurately. EIA does not publish a current SCOOP/STACK-specific series. This page retains the play definitions, target formations and related Anadarko context without inventing a combined production or rig-count number.
