The Tuscaloosa Marine Shale is a Late Cretaceous marine interval extending across parts of central Louisiana and southwestern Mississippi. It is generally deeper than many established U.S. shale plays and has presented drilling, pressure and completion challenges. The play remains distinct from the shallower Tuscaloosa conventional trend and from the Haynesville farther northwest.
